Who we are
Company Name: Chubs
At Chubs, our mission is to empower at-risk youth to become better, healthier, smarter, and stronger by providing safe spaces, compassionate mentorship, educational support, and life skills development. We are committed to helping young people build resilience, unlock their potential, and create pathways to a brighter, more equitable future.
With over 27 years of dedicated service in the Los Angeles School District, Ruben brings deep-rooted experience and a lifelong commitment to youth empowerment to their role as CEO of Chubs. His work has centered on middle and high school students, with 17 years leading Alternative to Suspension (ATS) programs that provided restorative, student-centered solutions to keep youth engaged in their education and away from punitive disciplinary cycles.
A Registered Alcohol and Drug Technician, Ruben combines clinical awareness with real-world experience to support students facing complex social and emotional challenges. He has further enhanced his leadership through high-impact training experiences, including the U.S. Marine Corps Educators’ Boot Camp, MUSTER with Echelon Front, and the Civilian Academy with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD). These programs shaped a leadership philosophy grounded in discipline, service, and accountability.
In 2013, Ruben was honored with the Community Hero Award by the City of Hawaiian Gardens, recognizing his exceptional contributions to local youth and families.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Ruben is most proud of being a dedicated single father to four children: Jasmine Vasquez (24), Ruben Vasquez (21), Emily Vasquez (16), and Issaac Vasquez (15). His role as a parent continues to inspire his work, anchoring his mission in compassion, resilience, and hope for future generations.
Under Ruben’s leadership, Chubs continues to create transformative opportunities for young people, especially those facing adversity, and to build safer, stronger communities from the ground up.
