"When I met Chubs, I was going through a rough transition between high schools. I was struggling emotionally and dealing with personal problems that affected the choices i made. On one occasion, I had to go to the S.T.A.Y program for my suspension, where I met Chubs for the first time around the age of 15. From the moment we met, he offered advice, which I would consider fatherly advice since I didn’t have a father figure in my life. I ended up attending alternative school and Chubs taught in the same building which is how I got to know him better. During my high school experience he became someone I could confide in and was one of the few who recognized my potential and believed in me. He helped me navigate personal situations, offering guidance with patience and understanding. He support extended beyond academics he was a teacher, a mentor, and has become a friend. Now, I’m proud to say I’ve graduated from Cal State Long Beach. I’m stepping into the field of education myself, as a special education teacher or general education teacher in hopes to make a difference."

"Some issues I was going through when I first met Chubs were addiction, fighting at school, and running away from home. I was 16 when I met Chubs. Chubs was always a positive role model and a great educator. He helped me appreciate my family and have a greater understanding of how drugs affect your health. Now I will be getting my associates degree in child development this year from Long Beach city college. I have a four year old daughter. I also work for a school district as a one on one aid."

"I first met Chubs when I was in middle school for the PATH program. During this time I was going through addiction and I thought that this program was just going to be a class of learning things I've already heard but this program was so much more thanks to Chubs. In that classroom I talked to so many new people and heard stories from others going through similar things. It was a safe space for me to talk about my struggles and for me to feel understood. Being in that classroom meant knowing there is someone out there who cares. He helped me believe that I am worthy of a better lifestyle and I took the steps to break my addiction. That classroom changed my life for the better and I will never forget the memories and lessons he gave me. "
